Regarding Hailiburton's possible overbilling of $61 million:

The defense officials said they had no reason to believe the problems were anything other than "stupid mistakes" by Halliburton. They said the company and the Pentagon were negotiating a possible settlement of the matter, which could include repayment by Halliburton.

Whoever made that statement should be fired. Funny how the stupid mistakes never result in an under billing!

And I imagine that Cheney himself will be the first one to stand behind the taxpayers on this one ... hmmm ... I wonder what Board of Directors he'll retire to??

They said actually they were paying too much to a Kuwaiti supplier, the only one that met the Pentagon's qualifications. That is my concern with this current idea of limit bidders on deals. Instead of getting the best deals at competitive prices, we are limiting ourself to a bidder or two on megadeals. You don't think that opens the door to massive corruption and price gouging???

Bush said if this is true he expects Halliburton to pay it back.

Hmmm. Does that mean I can pull some tax scam and screw the gov't out of $6 million and then if I get caught -- just pay it back ?

Try it Danny and get back to us. In the meantime don't forget that these issues are deeper than just Cheney and Halliburton. If we wanted another company with the resources and abilities of Halliburton we would probably have to get a French company, there just aren't many that could do the job. By shutting out French and German companies this task is being attempted with an arm tied behind our backs.
